Vanilla Bean Buttercream Frosting

Vanilla Bean Buttercream Frosting Recipe
Prep Time: 5 min. | Yield: 5 cups


  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter (softened to room temp.) 
  • 4 cups confectioners sugar 
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt 
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract 
  • 4 tablespoons heavy whipping cream 


  1. In stand mixer, beat butter for a few minutes until light and fluffy on medium speed. Add 3 cups of sugar and mix until just combined. Increase speed of the mixer and add salt, vanilla extract and heavy whipping cream. Add last cup of sugar. Add more sugar if it needs a more stiff consistency, or add more whipping cream and vanilla extract if needs to be thinned out. 

*HINT: For a strong vanilla bean flavor use a quality vanilla bean paste such as Nielsen-Massey Vanilla.
