Homemade Apple Pie Recipe
Prep Time: 45 min. | Cook Time: 35 min. |

  • 1 pie crust
  • 6 gala apples, peeled, cored and sliced
  • 3 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 dash ground nutmeg
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 egg + 2 Tbsp. water (egg wash)

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Press pie crust into greased pie dish, allowing excess to hang over the edge. Cover with plastic wrap and stick in fridge to chill.
  3. Toss apple slices with lemon juice in large bowl.
  4. Add both sugars, flour and spices to the bowl and toss to coat.
  5. Spoon apple filling into chilled pie crust.
  6. Cut butter into small pieces and sprinkle over apples.
  7. Roll out crust and cut into strips. Place one layer across and then place another layer across the pie, perpendicular to the first layer. Weaving each stripe over and under the first layer to create a lattice effect.
  8. Press down the edges of pie crust to seal top and bottom layers together.
  9. Brush egg wash lightly around the edge of the pie.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and juices are bubbling.
  11. Cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes.
  12. Enjoy with whipped cream or ice cream.
